No matter how hard and for how many years they try, for most skaters the dream turning professional will always be beyond reach. But even for those with the raw talent to make it, sometimes financial hardships, lack of opportunities, or just one too many injuries, can scupper even the most promising careers. If, like Franco-Brazilian outfit Blaze Supply’s Jhony Melhado, you come from the streets of Pircacicaba, Brazil, the odds are even more stacked against you. That’s why his first stunning video part for Blaze Supply and new signature board are so fantastic to see. Not that it isn’t well deserved – the select few already aware of Jhony’s outstanding talent would argue that it’s long overdue.
Jhony has been competing as an amateur in international competitions across Europe and the USA for over seven years, as well as becoming a fixture at contests in his home country. He’s been skating for over fifteen years, and the skills he has accumulated over that time really are at international elite level. Simply, it’s like a new legend has emerged fully-formed, as you will see for yourself when you watch the video.
Shot between 2012 and 2015 in the Brazilian cities of Porto Alegre, Sao Paulo, Piracicaba and Rio de Janeiro, with additional sequences filmed in Barcelona, Spain, and Los Angeles, USA, the video showcases Jhony’s phenomenal street skateboarding prowess. His aggressive style incorporates a dizzying quota of lightning fast flips, yet he sails over and under obstacles like he isn’t even trying. All in all, it looks like Jhony could turn out to be one of those skaters people are still talking about decades from now.
