Enduro racer, erstwhile downhill competitor and impeccable moustache grower Joe Barnes certainly knows how to live. He’s got a topflight pro MTB career, a super cool campervan, and a burgeoning film project with friends and fellow enduro professionals Fergus Lamb, Liam Moynihan and James Shirley. The entire group hails from Fort William in Scotland, and we’re guessing retro TV set in America’s Deep South is big around those parts, as collectively they’re calling themselves ‘The Dudes of Hazzard’.

Switching from downhill to enduro proved to be a pretty shrewd move for Joe, and he was soon amassing a respectable collection of trophies, including wins at the Irish Gravity Enduro in 2012, another victory at Innerduro 2013 in Innerleithen, Scotland, plus a runner-up place in the opening leg of the 2013 Specialized-SRAM Enduro series in Treuchtlingen, Germany.

Since then it’s been a case of slow and steady for this laid-back, tousle-haired dude, with a top ten result in Punta Ala, Italy, at the first event of the inaugural Enduro World Series in 2013, and a series of top 20 finishes during the remainder of the competition. This approach seems to be working, however, as he eventually finished in tenth place overall.

Impressive stuff, and there’s sure to be much more to come from Joe in the years ahead. In the meantime, though, join Joe for an idyllic sojourn in the sunny Swiss Alps as he makes his way by cable car and chairlift to a typical day at the office. It’s just in Joe’s case, ‘the office’ is a sweet, dusty trail on the edge of the forest, and a day’s work consists of casually nailing some of the fastest, most accomplished riding you’re likely to see all year.
