It’s the stuff of dreams; being able to roll out of bed, onto your bike and ride the day away.
It’s the reason so many people chasing passion over paychecks set up shop in resort towns or remote areas of our wonderful planet, turning away from bustling city life for tantalising trails.
But even that isn’t quite enough for some folk. Whether out of necessity from having a lack of other options or just an urge to fulfil a lifelong dream, some people go to serious extremes to bring the trails one step closer; or to build trails one step from their back door to be more exact.
1) The Athertons
The Atherton family live and breathe mountain biking. Obviously. It's no surprise that they've got a sick set up at their homeground over in Wales, then. Dan Atherton's jump line quickly become the stuff of legend in the MTB scene, and it's easy to see why.
“It was actually pretty easy to create," he told us modestly earlier this year. "It was just a blank field, so there was nothing to work around, and really easy access. The initial build only took about six weeks.
"Like all this stuff, it's the maintenance that usually kills it, especially in an open space like that. It's like having a kid - it takes so much looking after! There was nothing drawn out on paper though, once you start building something big like that it kind of grows and lines open up that you would never have planned."
