Hard Enduro Race in Wales - The Tough One 2013
EnduroCross champion and all-round nice guy Graham Jarvis came up trumps again at WOR Events' The Tough One 2013 in Wales, having triumphed at the event the previous year. The rain was out in force during the days beforehand, and for some of the race itself, so competitors had to battle through mud, more mud, rubble, old cars, steep banks divided by stubborn tree roots, and yet more mud to complete the gruelling three-hour race.
Much to his delight, Jarvis was able to establish a decisive lead over the other riders including fellow front-runners Gas Gas team member Danny McCanney and KTM's Jonny Walker, and went on to win comfortably. That said, the race itself was anything but comfortable, with several riders requiring assistance from the stewards to get their bikes to the top of the steeper slopes. One rider in particular attempted to power through the slippery conditions and lost his bike from underneath him, smashing it into a tree. This near miss was met with gasps from the spectators, who were crowded around the edge of the course beneath a patchwork of golf umbrellas.
Sadly, The Tough One came to an end in 2016, although happily for Jarvis he came in first ahead of David Knight and Paul Bolton. This brought his total wins at the event to four out of the twelve Tough One races organised by WOR Events, an impressive record by anyone's standards. While we won't be seeing him at any more of these particular events, Jarvis is sure to be hammering the competition at other enduro races for many years yet.
