Stand-Up Paddling gets a bit of a bad wrap among surfers. And non-surfers. Err, and just about everybody on the planet that doesn’t SUP.
We’re not entirely sure why, we must admit. Maybe it’s because it’s seen as the low-octane step-child of surfing, enjoyed my mummsie types and vegans who call their children Welk.
But, as much as human beings seem to dislike it, it appears that the animal world is a big fan, or so a couple of videos that emerged this weekend suggest.
The first saw a pair of massive whales join a Paddle Boarder who was enjoying a day out off the coast of Esperance in the South West of Australia. Granted, the gentle acoustic cover of John Lennon’s Imagine over the top makes it seem like a calmer experience that it necessarily was.
But it’s not just Aussie whales that are digging SUP. This group took their boards out to the Weeki Wachee river near Orlando, Florida, and found themselves joined by a school of Manatees, swimming underneath them through the crystal clear water.
Tyler & Lauren get a special treat when this group of manatee swim so gracefully by them in the crystal clear water of the Weeki Wachee River. Thank-you for making SUP Weeki your paddleboard destination!
