St Anton am Arlberg, Austria

If you are looking for a banging nightlife, then St Anton is one of the best places to go – they have half a dozen seriously good après bars right on the piste.

Kicking off with the infamous MooserWirt, once described by Playboy magazines as “the mother of all après ski bars”. Think hundreds of people and beer served to your table (so you don’t have to stagger to the bar). In fact, this place is said to consume 5,000 litres of beer every day in peak season.

The Krazy Kanguruh is slightly higher up the mountain – and another ‘must visit’ in St Anton. It was founded by ex-Swedish ski racer Gunnar Munthe in 1974 and pumps beer out to punters on the sun terrace everyday from 3pm until after dark.

For a more traditional Austrian vibe, head to Sennhutte, just off the main piste from the Zammermoosbahn chairlift to St Anton. Expect DJ Didi Diesel on the decks and lots of rowdy Germans.

Morzine, France

The picturesque alpine town of Morzine transforms into après partiers’ dream come 3pm.

As the crowds slowly roll in off the mountain, the first stop is Bar Robinson’s or Robbos, a tiny French cafe run by two older folk. This is no Folie Douce but it’s always the most packed après bar in town. It only serves one beer, Mutzig, a strong lager that’s guaranteed to get you fired up for the evening ahead.

Further down the road, Le Rhodos is famed for its Toss The Boss nights, where you roll the dice and have your chance to win your round for free. Tibetan Bar attracts big crowds, as does the Cavern. If you happen to end up at the Ardent bubble, go get a drink in Happy Hours – you won’t regret it.

The big news for ravers who want to continue the après party into the early hours – famed club Le Paradis now in its second season after the recent revamp. It definitely rivals the glorious L’Opera for dancefloor antics.

Breckenridge, USA

Once an old mining town, Breckenridge is now one of the most popular ski resorts in North America. It’s not only home to insane snow and the highest chairlift in North America (at 12,480ft above sea level) but it’s also got a seriously good après scene.

The T-Bar at the base of Peak 8 is known for being an afternoon booze stop. It’s not quite as raucous on the slopes as it is in Europe, but you can still grab a few local craft beers in the sunshine before catching the gondola back to town.

If you’re looking for a lively place to drink, Copper Top on Beaver Run is a melting pot of seasonaires and holiday makers who flock to this joint for the pumping music and to watch people careering down the mountain.

When you head into town, make sure you stop by Mi Casa, the Mexican restaurant with over 100 different types of tequila to try. Americans also love a good “Irish pub” – try Burke and Riley’s Pub or for Napper Tandy’s late night food and Irish draft beer.

Las Lenas, Argentina

Argentinian après isn’t like European après. Forget dancing on the tables at 4pm before collapsing in a drunken stupor by 10pm. In Las Lenas, boozing starts late and finishes in the early hours of the morning.

Riders won’t start eating dinner until around 10pm before piling into the local bars and clubs around midnight.

The bar in the main Piramid is the place to go for pool and cheap beers. We recommend getting there before midnight to nab a table. If it’s dancing you’re looking for, then head over to UFO Point for techno/electro tunes after midnight.

Make a move over to La Cima if you fancy some karaoke before stopping by the casino for some late night frittering.

Val d’Isere, France

We couldn’t run an après round-up without including Val d’Isere. Starting on the slopes, you can’t go without visiting the infamous La Folie Douce where tunes are blasted out of speakers everyday from 3pm to 5pm with revellers guzzling champion and chanting in their ski boots.

Back in town, Victor’s is known for having some of the best après vibes around. Enjoy an ice cold beer and tunes on the terrace before heading inside for their deadly 9pm to 11pm happy hour.

Saloon is also super fun if you want to listen to a live DJ, play pool and knock back a few jagerbombs at the end of the day. They also have a ski guard who watches over your planks so they don’t get nicked. Handy!

If you’re hanging with the parents and want something a bit fancier, get over to  Les Barmes de l’Ours Bar next to the Face piste. They have a log fire, live music and a huge selection of nice wines and beers to choose from.

Sölden, Austria

People rave about the après in Sölden. Others call it “fearsome”. Either way, you’re not likely to have a dull afternoon boozing in this Austrian town.

The party kicks off at the Giggijoch lift end of town with Kuckuck dealing out shots of Spiegelei, which literally means “fried egg” and it’s served in a real egg shell. Schirm Bar is guaranteed to be packed with seasonaires chugging large quantities of beer.

Head into town and you’ll find dozens of bars down the main strip, including Chris & Co, an Irish pub with cheap beer and live sports. The underworld themed bar Joker is also a great place to stop by if you like drinking alongside flames and goblin motifs while sitting in an old chairlift chair suspended from the ceiling!

Queenstown, New Zealand

Queenstown is without a doubt the best après town in New Zealand. Ripples of its party-loving culture have spread across the world.

The winter kicks off in June with the annual Winter Festival, featuring frisbee golf tournaments, a dog derby (where farmers slide down the snow with their dogs), fireworks and obligatory all-day partying.

Back in town, the après options are numerous. The Buffalo Club has epic themed nights (including a 90s rave) plus two happy hours (yep, two!) One from 5pm to 6pm and then another from 10pm to 11pm. We recommend staying for both.

Classy bods should head to The Bunker serves the best lychee martinis in town. For somewhere a bit more classic and mellow, head to the Cardrona Hotel for a well-earned pint.

Borovets, Bulgaria

What do you think of when you think skiing in Bulgaria? Cheap. Booze. Which is why is why it’s definitely one of the best places in the world for après. A pint here costs just over £1.

It’s not a giant resort like Whistler, but that doesn’t mean your watering hole options are limited. Alpina is run by a British couple and is known for selling the cheapest drinks in Borovets, so always a good option to start. Titanic Bar is slightly harder to find but the atmosphere inside and the

Frankos is the place to go if you’re looking for loud music and a dancefloor to bust out some embarrassing dance moves. After midnight, head to the Buzz Bar – the name says it all.
