This New Wave of Skateboarding Videos Is Going Viral… But It’s Not What You’d Expect

We're not sure what kind of exercise these internet melting skate videos are actually inspiring...?

There are countless sick skate edits on line, but lets be honest, it’s rare you can honestly say that they’re going viral. However, there’s a new vein of skate videos is setting the virtual world alight.

Scientists think at least 83 per cent of this weeks internets had been used to watch these videos and warn that, if the trend continues, we could run out of internet as early as mid March.

The videos in question feature women exercising using a variety of skateboards. From longboards, to regular decks, down to the mini boards you see in the German budget shops we all love now we’re skint, the ladies turn these decks into innovative exercise equipment.

With gyms seemingly charging a king’s ransom for membership, these videos show everybody how they can feel the burn without feeling the pinch. And it looks like a lot of people already are.

One skate workout vid posted yesterday ended up being shared over 70,000 times, and viewed by millions of people. Strangely, 96 per cent of these were men…?

Which is what we don’t understand. We’re constantly being told that obesity is on the increase in much of the Western world. It’s rare that you go a month without headlines breaking about a generational fat bomb that’s going to explode within the next few years.

So how do you square the fact that we’re becoming  lazier and living increasingly sedentary lifestyles with these skate fitness videos taking off?

Could it be that a lot of men watching are focusing their exercise just on a one-handed work out? Surely not…
