Hoverboards Exist…And This Guy Just Used One To Set A New World Record

Insert inevitable Back To The Future II reference‏.

Who, in their right mind, hasn’t dreamed about owning their very own hover board? They’re everything you love about ground-based boarding, with the added thrill of flying thrown in for good measure.

If you’ve ever seen Back To The Future II, you’ve more than likely drooled at the thought of owning the board that Marty McFly flies around on. Just imagine how much fun it would be, hovering up to your local skate park on one.

For years, it’s been nothing more than a distant dream. But, to quote the immortal words of Bob Dylan, “…the times they are a-changin’.”

A Canadian man, called Catalin Alexandru Duru, is turning all of your hovering dreams into a reach-out-and-touch-it reality. Catalin, you see, has just smashed the Guinness World Record for the world’s longest hoverboard flight.

To break the record, Catalin needed to travel a minimum of 164 feet while airborne. In the end, he smashed the record comfortably; travelling a whopping 905 feet at a height of approximately 16 feet. The flight took place at Lake Ouareau in Quebec, Canada.

“Who, in their right mind, hasn’t dreamed about owning their very own hoverboard?”

According to the Guinness World Records, Duru constructed the propeller-powered prototype over the course of a year.

“I wanted to showcase that a stable flight can be achieved on a hoverboard, and a human could stand and control it with their feet,” he said, going on to claim that the board itself can reach “scary heights.” We’re not sure exactly how high something needs to be to be considered “scary”, but it all sounds very exciting.

Dear Catalin Alexandru Duru,

Please, please, please build us our very own hoverboard. We haven’t got much money, but we can guarantee you a lifetime supply of stickers and toasted halloumi sandwiches.

Thank you in advance,

The Mpora Team.
