There are numerous action sports toys on the market today. More often than not, they’re in the guise of tiny versions of real action sports equipment, ideal for young children (or not-so-young adults) to live out gnarly fantasies with until they can get hold of the genuine article.
Tiny working skateboards called finger boards, like the ones made by Tech Deck, have dominated the market for some time. However, that could be set to change.
Tony Hawk’s Circuit Boards are fun-sized skateboards fitted with a small electronic motor that let’s the owner rip about, performing turns just like on the real thing. Kinda.
Made by Hex Bugs and fronted by Tony Hawk – we can’t imagine the Bird Man spent too many hours soldering components himself – the promotional videos show the remote control boards riding vert, stalling on the coping, gapping transitions and grinding rails.
Quite how much of this is skill or good fortune (not to mention heavy editing) remains to be seen.
With just 18 weeks until Christmas, will Circuit Boards be the must have toy of 2014? Hopefully, by then Tony will have had a bit more practice with his. This video looks more like your drunk dad crashing your new toy car than the work of a skateboard legend.
