Not all advertising campaigns are born equal, and we’re not just talking about the wonderful world of sports here, either. That simple rule is pretty much applicable to the entire world.
Take ‘Go Compare’ for example. Yes, those goddamn opera adverts got on people’s radars, but the only thing they wanted to buy after watching it was a chainsaw with malicious intent.
If you just can’t get enough of the video up top, check out the behind-the-scenes footage below…
When the world of extreme sports does get its advertising right though, it can be pretty special. Remember these awesome edits from the Wyoming and British Columbian tourist boards?
We reckon The BC edit came out on top in that battle, even though Travis Rice’s narration for the Wyoming vid did make us swoon. Anyway, the Canadians have done it again with this latest campaign in promotion of Cycling Canada.
‘Hop On’ is the rallying cry from the land of maple syrup, general politeness and serious shredding, and the edit, which sees the bikes cycling themselves around some pretty intense scenery, makes for a damn fine watch.
Of course, not all action sports adverts are great either. We’ve done features before focused on lamentable surfing and skateboarding campaigns that would make Don Draper choke on his whisky.
Safe to say that director Mark Zibert and effects shop Alter Ego have done the job here though.
If you just can’t get enough of the video up top, it’s probably worth checking out the footage below as well. It’s the behind-the-scenes reel from the campaign video, and it shows you exactly how the magic came together.
We all knew bikes could looks great – often better – without their owners on them, but who knew they could shred so hard? There’s got to be scope for a ‘Toy Story’ type spin-off film here…
