If you’ve ever wondered what happened to Free Willy, after his epic jump for freedom (ignore the sequels, pretend like the sequels didn’t happen), then wonder no more.
On Monday, Luke Reilly was standup paddle-boarding (SUP) off the coast of New Zealand when an orca (that looked a bit like Willy The Whale) swam up to him and nibbled on the back of his board.
“I was definitely shaking at the knees,” Luke Reilly told news sources.
“It hung around looking at me and checking me out, watching, and then it slowly came up and grabbed the back of my board,” Reilly added.
Unfortunately, the orca whale was not available for comment.
Initially, upon hearing that orca whales were nearby, Reilly had scooped up his paddle-board and GoPro and paddled his way over to introduce himself. According to media outlets, Luke saw two of them diving for stingrays before one decided to swim much closer to him than he ever expected.
Is there enough of a story here to make a full-blown feature film? It could be called ‘Free Willy 4: Willy Nibbles Gently On A Paddle-Board.’ The plot would focus on a standup paddle-boarder called Ruke Leilly, and his hilarious misadventures with an orca whale.
It would be, let’s face it, quite a shit film.
