Here’s The Insane BMX Trick That Just Put An End To A Nine-Year X-Games Winning Streak

Aussie rider Vince Byron stuns the world by stopping Jamie Bestwick's historic gold spree...

Jamie Bestwick is one of – if not thee – greatest BMX vert riders to ever live. The 43-year-old veteran has won every overall title in Dew Tour history and to say he’s an X-Games legend is more than an understatement.

The Nottingham-born shredder has 15 X-Game gold medals to his name, 12 of which are gold Vert medals, and nine of which were won in record-breaking succession from 2006 to 2014.

Even the best will tell you that all good, great and even damn-right sport-defining hot streaks must come to an end though, and time was finally called upon Bestwick’s winning spree last weekend when Aussie rider Vince Byron beat him to the top of the podium.

Byron had three medals in the vert before, but this was the first gold at the X-Games for the 24-year-old. So, how do you go about axing the longest winning streak in X-Games history? With a trick never before seen at the games of course; a 540 flair to be precise, which you can check out in all its glory below.

It goes without saying that a man with the record of Bestwick doesn’t go down without a fight, and the star still came second with a score of 91.00, just one point behind Byron’s 92. It’s certainly the end of an era, though you’d be mad to bet against Jamie coming back and reclaiming his crown next year.

Another Briton Simon Tabron came in third place, but he was a wee bit back from the front runners with a score of 89.66, and it’s safe to say that the contest was all about the fight between Byron and Bestwick this year. Here’s the rest of the event highlights for your viewing pleasure…

In BMX park finals at the X-Games meanwhile, Daniel Sandoval came in late to take the win away from Dennis Enarson, who had lead for the majority of the event.

Here’s the crazy-skillful run that rightfully took the gold:
