When kayak fisherman Mark McCracken went for a paddle off the coast of Gaviota State Beach, Santa Barbara, he found himself attracting the attention of a local Tiger Shark.
Worried that he was soon to be on the sharks menu McCracken went on the offensive, whacking the beast with his paddle. This apparently only served to annoy the shark though, who continued to circle Mark and even follow him when he tried to beat a hasty retreat to shore.
“I couldn’t tell if he was biting it or if he was head-butting it but soon as I saw it I just started going at him with the paddle. Even after I got out of my kayak and made it to the beach he was sitting right there” McCracken said to local press shortly after the event. “It was pretty creepy.”
