“Faced with crisis, the man of character falls back on himself. He imposes his own stamp of action, takes responsibility for it. Makes it his own.”
It’s the Charles de Gaulle quote that opens the latest stunning behind-the-scenes film from SRAM and Mind Spark cinema, which charts the thoughts, concerns, hopes and efforts of Brandon Semenuk on Crankworx competition day at Les Deux Alpes.
Brandon’s been on top of the mountain bike slopestyle world for a while now. The 24-year-old first made his mark on the scene when he grabbed a podium spot at Crankworx Whistler at just 16 years old, and he’s not let up since, dropping one of the greatest film segments mountain biking has ever seen just earlier this month.
This footage below shows that it’s not always fun and games in the world of professional mountain biking though. Riding consistently at that level – at his level – isn’t easy, particularly when you’ve got someone as good as Brett Rheeder to constantly battle it out with, and it’s no surprise that there’s a lot going on in the head of Brandon Semenuk before a run on the big stage.
When the planning is done and the Canadian shredder is standing at the top of the drop-in, it’s not on a whim – it’s on the back of meticulous planning, strategy and practice. One is for sure though, whatever happens next, the sight of Semenuk mid-flight is always an absolute joy to behold.
