The Original Mountain Marathon (OMM) is not to be taken lightly. This two-day run navigating from checkpoint to checkpoint over some of the steepest and wildest terrain in Britain is accepted as one of the world’s hardest mountain marathons, not least of all as you have to carry all your food and overnight gear as well.
When Mpora did it we were lucky enough to be testing out one of the lightest two-man tents in the world – the Nordisk Telemark 2 ULW (standing for two man ultralightweight) tent reviewed here. At 880g grams this is exceptionally light. Yet it’s no good being a light tent if it doesn’t hold up to the weather. But if we were ever worried about that, two late October nights in the stormy Scottish Borders alleviated any fears.

It features a one-pole hoop construction that bends around the inner sheet, while four very short poles at each corner lift the flysheet off the floor maximizing the space. To achieve this kind of weight requires serious attention to detail. The clips to attach the inner and flysheet are rubber, the tent pegs are titanium, and the poles are carbon fibre. The material is a 10-denier nylon with ripstop pattern. Yet there’s little compromise on features. There are ventilation windows and a storage pocket. The door is easily held back and there’s dry access.
