Jungfrau Railway
The Jungfrau Railway was and is an astonishing feat of engineering. First operational in 1912, the train takes passengers from picturesque Kleine Scheidegg right through the heart of the fearsome Eiger to the Jungfraujoch, Europe’s highest railway station at 3,454 m. Passengers emerge in thick snow to one of the most spectacular views in Europe. The highlight of the journey, however, is the Eigerwand: an intermediate station inside the mountain from which passengers can look straight out from the infamous North Face through panorama windows.
Journey time 50 minutes, from £40. More information here.
