Ski Ballet
Ski Ballet
Add Strictly Come Dancing to The Jump, sprinkle a little Liberace on top, and you have Ski Ballet.
Sometimes called ‘Acroski’, it kind of looks a bit like a flat land skiing competition. It was popular in the 1970’s and 80’s and, at one point, evolved into a pairs competition. Hell, it was even an Olympic event in 1988, and four years later in ’92.
Competitors would perform routines to music and were judged on style and smoothness, along with trick selection. Now, some 30+ years later, we still judge them.
Chances of taking off: 3/10
We’d like to say there’s no chance of this making a resurgence, but we’d have said that about other 1970’s staples such as ball room dancing and casual racism, and Strictly and UKIP seem more popular than ever, depressingly, so a comeback may be on the cards.
