The Peace Issue

This issue is all about peace and quiet.

It includes the stories of American G.I.’s who discovered that surfing let them escape the horrors of the Vietnam war, and an interview with adventure photographer Danny Burrows who went to document life in the infamous ‘Jungle’ refugee camp in Calais, and was impressed by the quiet dignity of its occupants.

There’s a profile of celebrated ultra runner Dean Karnazes, who has a remarkable ability not only to overcome the physical pain of running unfathomable distances, but also find an inner peace while his body is screaming at him to stop.

We escape the noise of the city to go wild camping in Snowdonia and spend three days trail running down the deserted coastal paths of Portugal.

We take a closer look at Stephanie Gilmore’s Instagram feed to examine how the stylish surfer offers us a glimpse of a more serene life, and we visit the Italian island where Napoleon was exiled and discover a peaceful, quiet mountain biking paradise.
