8. Watch the wind
It might sound petty but the wind has a huge effect on your running ability; not only does it slow you down when running head-on into an icy gale but the cold air on a sweaty body can chill the core quicker than usual and make you feel properly uncomfortable.
It is advised to run against the wind on your way out, so you get the nasty stuff out of the way first, and then plan a route home where the wind is behind you, speeding up the latter section and getting you back in the warmth quicker.
