In most skateparks today, you can find skaters wearing £600 belts or £3000 cufflinks because they are the perfect accessories for a passion that almost never involves landing hard on your face.
If you think that anyone saying this is in need of a serious reality check, you’d be right. A good place to start would be with the advertising execs at designer clothing brand Hermes.
What the connection is between the über expensive fashion house and skating is anyone’s guess…
Admittedly this is finger skating, but it’s still essentially an attempt to borrow skating’s visual style (minus the risk of bodily harm).
The whole commercial seems to be an almost shot by shot remake of a video posted seven years ago on You Tube.
While it’s fun to see skate tricks in miniature, this advert is definitely a triumph of style over substance.
You only need to notice the choice at 00:44 to replace the fashionable Hermes leather-covered mini model with a finger skateboard to do all the tricks to see what we mean.
