“Sand is overrated. It’s just tiny little rocks”, says Jim Carrey’s character at the start of ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’. Word. Amen. True dat. Before we saw the incredible skate film below, shot on a Norwegian beach, we basically felt exactly the same about sand.
Filmed by Jørn Nyseth Ranum and featuring skaters Hermann Stene, Didrik Galasso, Henrik Lund and Karsten Kleppan, ‘Northbound’ is one of the most beautifully put together things we’ve seen in a long time. Skateboarders skateboarding on frozen sand shouldn’t work, and yet somehow it does. It just does.
Seriously, we took so many screenshots during the film’s eight minutes of running time that we’re going to have to buy a separate hard-drive to store them all on. A feast for the eyes, and one of the coolest skate edits we’ve seen in a long time. Turns out sand isn’t so bad after all.
