We’ve all been there, watching banger skate edits and comparing it to the rubbish we filmed ourselves, wondering why we even bothered.
The obvious way around this issue is to become really good at skating and then get in a better filmer than Dog Smell Mike and his eight year old smart phone to get the footage.
However, there is another way of getting hype for your edit without going through the above, frankly tedious, steps. The way to make a screamingly average edit into a good one is by being really famous for some thing other than skating, and then drop your footage. Easy, right?

He may not be the best skater in the world but, just like the Mpora school PE report used to read year after year, what he lacks in ability he makes up for in effort.
He could quite easily sit on his arse counting his hip hop squillions, but the man some people call Shrimp Daddy spends his down time kick flipping his shins to death, and that’s something you have to respect.

Scot Steven’s is one of our favourite snowboarders because of his unique approach to sliding down a hill – a style that’s imitated by many, but never bettered.
However, when this skate edit dropped last year, it turned a lot of heads, and not just the ones wearing googles. The skateboard world also took note, and grudgingly gave Stevens a collective high five.

It’s easy to hate Justin Bieber and make fun of his desire to learn to skate board, and why should we be any different? The good-boy-turned-bad-boy-turned-irrelevant-boy of pop regularly gets snapped by paparazzi vermin as he tries the kind of basic tricks your granddad could do after a fay on grip tape.
Actually, lets cut old J-Bib a break here. At the end of the day, he’s just a kid who’s discovered skateboarding and wants to get involved. It’s not his fault he’s Justin Bieber.
Now, almost a decade on from his first pop warblings he probably hates the shit he’s contractually obliged to do even more than you are. And a least you don’t have to wake up and see his face in the mirror ever day.

The man who was behind a number of videos by the likes of Björk, Pavement and this absolute banger by the Beastie Boys also likes to have a roll when he’s not on set.
In fact, Spike’s pretty well respected by a lot of skaters, and he even crops up occasionally in episodes of Jackass (although, arguably, that could be more to do with the fact he had a big hand in writing it than his 180’s).

The actor maybe best known for staring in the eponymous role in My Name Is Earl was once the poster boy for the skater/slacker generation, appearing in a whole host of Kevin Smith films including Clerks, MallRats, Chasing Amy, and Dogma.
In fact, he was a pro skater for a while, when he started his own brand called Stereo Skateboards. Tony Hawk even got Lee to act in one of his THPS video games.
