Model-slash-entrepreneur-slash-Paul-McCartney’s-ex-wife Heather Mills has written herself into the record books after becoming the fastest disabled female skier in the world.
Mills lost the lower half of her left leg back in 1993, after a collision with a police motorcycle in the streets of London left her in need of an amputation. She continued her work as a model subsequent to the accident, and with the use of a prosthetic limb, managed to become one of top disabled skiers in the United Kingdom.
The skier is currently ranked 28th in the slalom ranks, and while she missed out on the 2014 Olympics due to a leg injury, Mills has put herself right back in the news this week after slamming down a mountain in the French resort of Vars at a cool 103.6mph.
The stunt comes as part of a record-breaking few weeks at Vars, where the fastest speed ever ridden on a bicycle was set at 139mph by Frenchman Eric Barone and Edmond Plawczyk broke the world speed record on a snowboard by hitting 126.31mph.
Indeed, records have been getting set Here, There and Everywhere in Vars, and Mills wasn’t going to be left to look The Fool on the Hill. It may have been a bit of a Helter Skelter ride, but it was all over pretty quickly in the end. It only took Heather FourFiveSeconds to get down, and she’s now got an official world record to her name.
Not bad Mills. Not bad at all. Certainly much better than our awful Paul McCartney puns in the last paragraph, anyway. Sorry about to that. We should probably just have Let It Be.
Next up for the athlete then? Well, possibly the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea. “I’ll be 50 then, but that won’t stop me,” she told HELLO! magazine after nailing her run.
It certainly would be an impressive feat for her to make the team, but Mills is clearly keen on pushing boundaries, having also held records in bobsleigh, skeleton, ski jump and airbag jumping before.
So, good luck Heather and congratulations on the new record. It’ll be no big surprise if we see her in Pyeongchang in three years time.
