Phew, it’s Friday again, another week in the can. Sit back, relax and enjoy the best bits from the past week in the world of action sports.
7. Joe Barnes storms Fort William
Scotland is a muddy place at this time of year. That would scare some people off but it just got Joe Barnes there even quicker. Here he is tearing into some of the gnarliest, muddiest corners we’ve seen in ages. His mother will not be happy when he gets home.
6. Gérome Mathieu gets in the ring at ISPO
It’s not often that you get to see pro snowboarders getting involved in the ‘sport of kings’, that’s why we always look forward to the Lights Out event at ISPO. Pro snowboarders and guys from the industry duke it out for charity and their own pride. This year APO rider Gérome Mathieu settled some scores Marquess of Queensbury style.
5. Silky Backcountry action from La Rosiére
This was the video that made us one to get to the mountains as soon as possible. Smooth as glass skiing and snowboarding in some stunning looking off-piste in the French resort. Swoon.
4. Mark Healey getting slammed at Mavericks
Of all the waves to get caught inside, Mavericks is not the one. Mark Healey captured the proof as he got slammed by the Californian mega-wave earlier this week. This GoPro perspective is as close as we want to get.
3. The Skiing Mariachi going to Sochi
Sochi is just around the corner, the trickle of press releases and anticipation is starting to turn into a torrent. The bland uniforms and athlete ‘journeys’ were all merging into one until we came across Prince Hubertus von Holenhohe, the Austro-German aristocrat who would be the sole representative of Mexico at the Winter Olympics. We know you want to read more.
2. Remember the name – Justin Fronius
This guy is going to blow up this year. Named Snowboarder Mag’s Rookie of the Year and Reels Festivals’ Newcomer of the Year, Justin Fronius has really put himself on the map with this edit. He even carries the Devun Walsh seal of approval and that’s good enough for us.
1. Jaws goes apocalyptic during Point Break 2 filming
Everyone’s favourite shit nineties action movies is getting a sequel. Point Break 2 headed down to Oahu earlier this week and Jaws promptly went absolutely biblical. We think Gerard Butler played it safe this time and stayed on the shore but plenty of others made hay while Jaws was dropping bombs.
