The World Reacts to their New Men’s Olympic Halfpipe Champion

As the dust settled on last night’s amazing Olympic Halfpipe the world took stock of Iouri Podladtchikov’s incredible performance that had made him Olympic champion. We’ve collected the best of the internet’s reaction to an incredible night in snowboarding history.

Roger Federer was one of the first to congratulate his countryman.

Mark McMorris was pretty impressed.

It was seen as some to be a changing of the guard.

While some saw similarities between Iouri Podladtchikov and another familiar face.

Suddenly even people you wouldn’t expect knew what a YOLO flip was.

American athlete, Andrew Wheating, had condolences for Shaun White.

While Nate Abbott wondered if White would fall foul of Russia’s stance on homosexuality.

This user drew some unusual links between politics and snowboarding – and ignored the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Terje Haakonsen felt that the gold should’ve gone to the Far East.

Mark McMorris’ brother, Craig, was pretty impressed too.

The Irish Embassy in Japan also got involved.

Winter X-Games Champion, Danny Davis, apologised for America’s poor showing.

But Sage Kotsenburg had an important reminder for us all.

Iouri hasn’t taken to twitter to celebrate his victory just yet.

But reminded the world what it had taken for him to take gold.

Congrats Iouri Podladtchikov!
