The Superhuman Issue

July 2016

July’s issue is all about investigating the superhuman. What does the word actually mean? In a bid to find out, we push ourselves to the limits north of the Arctic Circle in Norway’s toughest endurance race. We head to the Himalayas and talk to a local mountain biker with unnaturally large lungs who rides comfortably at heights that’d make your head spin. We delve into the history of the Tour de France to bring you the story of a pioneering team who had to overcome incredible odds just to start the race – let alone finish it – and talk to BASE jumpers who can literally fly like Batman in a bid to find out what makes them tick.

Looking further into the future, we investigate the thorny issue of genetic selection and whether parents will be able to create ‘designer babies’ with superhuman skills, and we take a look at the world of disability action sports – and the incredible individuals who’ve pushed them forwards. What does the word superhuman mean? Keep your eyes peeled for these features, and more, dropping throughout July to find out.
