Hawaiian native Alana Blanchard holds the mantle of the most followed surfer on social media by absolutely miles. She’s got the best part of a million followers on Instagram and over 100k on Twitter.

Her social media fame is slightly out of kilter with her performances on the tour, but she’s still world class. Last year she managed 10^th on the Women’s World Championship Tour, scoring 25,900 points and taking home US$44,500 in prize money in the process, a number dwarfed by her modelling and product endorsements.

She attracts huge crowds whenever she takes to the water and become one of the few in her sport to break out of surfing and into the mainstream. Blanchard has almost as many cover shoots to her name as she’s ridden waves and took a starring role in last years Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue. She now stars in Network A’s Surfer Girl series series where her surfing and bikini exploits attract millions of views.
