Like the men’s event, the women’s Rip Curl Bells event has been a solid part of their tour for several years, and is one of the classics to win.

The wave its self is a classic long right reef, not super hollow but totally ripable, and the whole beach provides a natural amphitheatre for surf.

To the world the beach became famous in the movie Point Break when Patrick Swayze’s character Bodhi paddled out for his last wave. It doesn’t actually get that big, but it is capable of throwing up huge surf for the contest which makes for challenging conditions.

Who to watch?

As with the men’s event it is a regular footers arena out at Bells, and you need to look no further than Carissa Moore, Sally Fitzgibbons and Steph Gilmore as to who is likely to be in the final, or even more likely to ring that bell.

Moore won the last event, with Sally the two before that and Gilmore the one before, so you can see the three of them have it pretty locked down.
