2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea

The news about snow & ski slopestyle can move over to one side for the moment as we take a look at the draw for the 2018 Winter Olympics! With Annecy, France, Munich, Germany and Pyeongchang, South Korea all gunning to claim the games, it seems to me that it might have been an obvious choice.
The IOC base all of their decisions on logistics, how the games will help the economy and things like that but I’m pretty sure South Korea would’ve easily been picked out as the 2018 hosts.

Holding the games in South Korea would mean that TV views would be extremely high as people are going to want to tune in to see how the games would cope over there. However, this is the third time that South Korea has applied to be hosts, missing out to Vancouver and Sochi at the last two attempts so it’s about time they won! They smashed the vote collecting 63 votes, which was miles ahead of Germany’s 25 and France’s 7. It’s not a great result for the European contingent as the travel expenses are going to be pretty high but I’m sure there will be enough of us down there!

This is the third time the games will be held in Asia and the first time that they won’t be held in Japan. All in all it’s pretty big news for the games to be in South Korea but I think it was an obvious choice over the other two applicants. Apparently it’s going to bring in over US$60 billion so it’s a hell of a lucrative deal!

What do you all think about it? I, for one, think that it’s pretty good that we can have the Winter Olympics in so many different cultures across the world. Thoughts in the comments below people!
