Yes, the Vision series of skis might have been a new series of skis from Line last year, but we here at Mpora were blown away by their balance of performance and weight. We previously put the Vision 98 through the wringer last year and now, for 2021, we’ve spent a good amount of time getting to know the Vision 108s, and have been left seriously impressed.

Line has previously dabbled in creating a touring ski, with the Sick Day Tourist, but the Vision series is the first time the company has produced a whole lineup of touring skis. But fear not, as Line has still managed to stay true to its playful freestyle roots in the production of this ski.

Line Vision 108 Build

Similar to the Vision 98, the Vision 108 features THC (insert cannabis joke here) within its construction. This is Line’s ‘Triple Hybrid Construction’ which features carbon aramid and fibreglass. These three materials are all sandwiched together and because the materials vibrate at different frequencies, it creates a well-tuned ski that’s able to absorb many of the typical vibrations while you’re railing turns.

“It creates a well-tuned ski that’s able to absorb many of the typical vibrations”

So that’s the THC chatter out of the way. Onto the cores, you’ve got a Paulownia and Maple core, which helps to bring a mixture of weight savings and pop. Then, as like many of touring skis on the market, Line have further shaved off the grams by thinning the core and sidewalls towards the tips and tails. This doesn’t only save a hundred or so grams per ski but it also helps to reduce the swing weight for when you need to throw the planks around at speed.

This construction results in a relatively mellow flex pattern; certainly one we’d attribute to a pair of playful backcountry skis. You’ve got a soft tip, that’ll help smooth out rough snow conditions, and slightly stiffer tails that’ll support you if you ever find yourself caught in the backseat.

“It really helps to smooth out any unwanted chatter”

We found this to be the case during testing and really got behind this use of a forgiving flex pattern in a lightweight build. It really helps to smooth out any unwanted chatter you usually get with extremely lightweight – and extremely stiff – touring skis.

Line Vision 108 Shaping

The Vision 108 features a good deal of taper both in the tips and tails. Line are certainly leaning on their freestyle heritage with the shaping of the Vision 108. The set back tapering is going to help the soft snow performance and turnability of these planks.

Not only does the tapering help in the manoeuvrability department, but rocker in both the tips and tails has been called on to further boost how pivotable the skis are. This rocker travels pretty deep into the ski, giving little edge contact directly to the snow, for maximum slash.

Who Is The Line Vision 108 For?

All of this translated into a ski that we loved, throughout pretty much every type of terrain and conditions you could find in the resort and beyond. The Vision 108 felt surprisingly good on the groomers, gripped incredibly well and loved to turn and mix things up on the side hits – all while carrying enough width for the powder days.

Similar to the Vision 98, we feel the Vision 108’s are a pair of skis that many people will get on with thanks to that approachable flex rating and hybrid playful/backcountry shaping. And the best of all this? They’re coming in at 1,600 grams per ski; that’ll be one less excuse for the ascent.

What Is The Line Vision 108 Good At?

Playfulness: 9/10
Soft Snow: 8/10
Carving: 7/10
