Replacing the old Vantage 97Ti, Atomic are claiming that this, the all-new Atomic Maverick 100, is the perfect all-mountain ski for those living in North America, thanks to its ability to cut up groomers, while remaining buoyant and manoeuvrable in the sidecountry. And, given not all of us here in Europe dedicate our lives to staying within the pistes, we could see this also being a great ski for the right kind of European skiers.

“Atomic prototyped a whopping 145 skis”

So how did Atomic set about producing a ski designed for the North American market? Well, they assembled a test team of 60 skiers that included consumers, ski pros and shop employees to help the brand pin down exactly what this slice of the market was after. The result of the research? North American skiers are looking to ski any type of terrain, no matter what type of conditions the U.S. and Canadian resorts could through their way.

Atomic prototyped a whopping 145 skis, finally settling on five men’s models and four women’s that will help blue-square through double-black-diamond skiers have a killer day in almost all conditions and terrain.

The Maverick (and Maven for the ladies) line comes in at 86, 88, 95 and 100 waist widths that are made up from a titanium (Ti) construction. There’s also a 86 ‘C’ that’s built with carbon for a slightly less demanding ride. The Maven lineup consists of a 86, 86 C and 93 C.

Atomic Maverick 100 Ti Build

Back to the Maverick 100. The first thing that’s worth checking out is their construction. Taking the same Poplar woodcore from the Bent Chetler 120, Atomic has looked to beef up this core with two sheets of Titanal for the Ti line of skis. These .4mm layers of metal sandwich above and below the core to provide a high level of power transmission.

A further boost in power has been achieved through a full sidewall underfoot, combined with a semi cap construction towards the tips and tails to help improve the durability, and reduce stiffness at either end of the ski.

Atomic Maverick 100 Ti Shaping

Onto the rocker profile you’ve got progressive rocker both in the tips and tails, and a nice bit of camber underfoot. Atomic has increased the amount of tapering in the tips, especially when compared to the rocker. This interesting blend of rocker and camber is what Atomic are calling their ‘Flow Profile’.

The Flow Profile is essentially what Atomic claim is the perfect blend of rocker, camber and tapering to ensure an optimal amount of effective edge remains for hard snow carving, while there’s just enough tapering and rocker to allow for quick slashes and soft snow manoeuvrability. Brands have long been balancing the rocker profile with the ski shaping, so it’s great to see Atomic put more focus on this with the construction of the Maverick 100.

Taking more features from the excellent Bent Chetler series, the Maverick also features Atomic’s HRZN tech in the tips and tails, which is essentially a contoured section of the base – kind of like the hull of a boat. This bevelling adds 10% more surface area to the tips, helping to prevent any unwanted hookieness in three dimensional snow.

Who Is The Atomic Maverick 100 Ti For?

To us, creating a ski that’s designed for a specific continent is quite a strange way to approach, and go about, ski design. In saying this ski is purely designed for North American skiers risks alienating a huge range of skiers over in Europe, who this ski could be perfectly suited towards.

“This ski would be suited towards skiers who love a nimble ski”

With all that being said, we’d say that this ski would be suited towards skiers (both in Europe and North America) who love a nimble ski that can do just about everything in pretty much all kinds of conditions. If you’ve previously found the Bent Chetler 100 a little too playful and loose, then you’re going to get on with the more directional aspect of the Maverick 100s.

What Is The Atomic Maverick 100 Ti Good At?

Versatility: 9/10
Carving: 7/10
Soft Snow: 7/10
