Science, you mysterious devil. Look at you, walking around town with your scientific hat and your scientific trousers. You’re just so scientific. You certainly put the science in the word ‘science’, that’s for sure. Keep up the good work, science.
This video of a red hot nickel ball (the perfect name for a Red Hot Chili Peppers and Nickelback collaboration, if ever we’ve heard one), cooling on a block of floral foam is one of the most mesmerising ‘science-y’ things we’ve ever seen.
At first, nothing happens. And then, out of nowhere, everything happens. The nickel ball cools down rapidly, and basically turns the foam into a crumbling tower of despair. It’s bleak, fascinating, and weirdly hypnotic all at the same time.
Apparently, these red hot nickel ball videos are nothing new. A cheeky glance at the YouTube listings, for example, reveals that it’s possible to watch a red hot nickel ball taking on a whole variety of objects (including a watermelon, and a Rubik’s Cube).
If you need us, we’ll be spending the rest of the day watching red hot nickel balls destroy stuff. For some more screen shots of red hot nickel balls melting through stuff, check out the following gallery.
