10 Camping Accessories Every Adventurer Needs
How many of these camping accessories do you already own?
Packing light is super important when you are going camping. After all, there is only so much you and/or your car can carry.
Here are a few essential camping accessories we think every camper should own (plus a few luxuries as well). Most will be stocked in these camping shops.
CAMPING STOVE - JETBOIL
Jetboil make some of the best camping stoves in the world. If you are a backpacker looking for a lightweight stove, then the MiniMo is perfect for you. It’s light, compact and easy to stash away into your backpack.
However, if you are setting up camp for a few days and don’t mind bringing along a bigger camping stove, try the Genesis Base Camp. It opens out, so you can fry on one side and boil water on the other. You can see why it’s won so many awards including National Geographic Adventure Gear of the Year 2015.
LANTERN - GOAL ZERO
Looking for a super bright camping lantern? Goal Zero make excellent lanterns for the outdoors. The Lighthouse 250 has a bright 250 lumen LED light, making it one of the best camping accessories around. It will last up to 48 hours without charging.
When you do need to recharge it, you can either plug it into a power source or use the wind-up handle on top (if you are miles from an electricity socket).
CAMPING CHAIR - COLEMAN
Coleman make some of the best quality camping chairs around. You can choose from a whole range of designs including the Kick-Back chair for lazing around by the campfire to the lightweight Bungee chair with extra back support.
SURVIVAL KNIFE - GERBER
If you are looking for a camping knife, then you need to buy a Gerber. They make the ultimate survival knives for camping, hunting and even military knives. The Freescape Camp Kitchen Knife is perfect for all your campsite cooking needs. You can also use it to cut twine and feather sticks.
WATER BOTTLE - HYDRO FLASK
This could be the perfect water bottle. Hydro Flask bottles are all vacuum-insulated, which means it keeps water ice-cold and food warm for up to 24 hours. They also don’t leak, which is a major bonus.
You can choose from a 32oz (940ml) bottle for carrying water or a 12oz (350ml) coffee flask. They’ve also just released the Growler, made especially for keeping beer cold.
SLEEPING MATTRESS - THERM-A-REST
We all know that feeling of sleeping in a tent with a big rock digging into our back because our roll mat just isn’t very comfortable. When I first tried out a Therm-a-rest, it literally changed my camping experience forever. Now I won’t go camping without it.
It’s a tiny compact self-inflating mattress that rolls up into a pouch not much bigger than a bottle of beer. They aren’t cheap but it is without a doubt one of the best camping accessories you will ever own.
INSECT REPELLENT - INCOGNITO SPRAY
Insect repellent is a must-have in any camping equipment box. Mosquitos love bothering campers, especially if you are pitched up near water. Incognito make 100 per cent natural insect repellent.
It’s been tested by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, protecting you against mosquitoes, midges, horseflies and more with covering yourself in chemical DEET.
BACKPACK - OSPREY
Osprey have an excellent selection of backpacks for camping - depending on whether you are going on a multi-day hike or just a weekend at a festival. The Atmos AG is one of our personal favourites.
One of the best parts about Osprey is they design backpack specifically for women with extra support around the hips. We can testify the Aura AG is super comfortable with great ventilation to stop your back getting too sweaty.
CAMPING CUTLERY - YELLOWSTONE
No one likes eating dinner with a plastic knife and fork. Especially when you are trying to cut through a piece of meat and the knife just bends in half. Yellowstone make a reusable, more environmentally version - stainless steel knife, fork and spoon.
PORTABLE SHOWER - KATHMANDU
Now this is a real luxury. If you are living on the road for a long time - maybe travelling in a campervan - then you will love this camping accessory. Kathmandu make portable solar showers. Fill with water, place in the sun and three hours later you’ll have a warm shower. Pretty sweet, right?
