BASE jumping is a pursuit for the crazy, the unhinged and the downright eclectic. However, as crazy as it is, I think there’s a part of us that likes to believe that we have the mettle to do it ourselves. The majority of us though, myself included, just like to live vicariously through someone else’s experience and video footage, especially when it comes to something like ski BASE jumping off the Matterhorn!

For those of you who don’t know about the Matterhorn you should get ready for a quick lesson! The Matterhorn is a mountain on the border of Italy and Switzerland and is just shy of 15,000ft making it one of the highest peaks in the alps. It’s been scaled by many a climber over the years but still has a reputation for being pretty dangerous! So what do you say when someone brings up the idea of jumping off the Matterhorn on some skis with a parachute strapped to their back? You say “you’re nuts but I’ll film it for sure.”

And that’s exactly what WIDSIX TV did as they followed ‘Super Frenchie’ Matthias Giraud on his trip up the mountain and down it, except down was a hell of a lot quicker than the way up. It wasn’t without it’s hitches though as Matthias has to avoid death from the get-go as his ski hits a rock and he’s forced to throw a huge front flip off the peak to avoid some serious head injuries. Luckily enough though he gets enough air and has one of the rides of his life.
