FW, pronounced “forward,” are a brand that really speaks to the idea that if you’re not moving forward you’re just standing still. They’re all about looking ahead, and never resting on their laurels. This progressive approach has seen them build up quite a reputation for themselves in the ski outerwear market. The Catalyst 2L Pant, which can be paired up with the very good Catalyst 2L Jacket, is a fine example of the stuff the company does so well.

Materials and Insulation

The Catalyst 2L utilises WPS-2L Ottoman Recycled Yarn (15k waterproof / 10k breathability). Despite being cotton-like in appearance, this two-layer fabric is actually highly technical. It’s soft to the touch and supremely durable to boot. You can lap about the place endlessly in these and you’ll always be comfortable. They’re also tough enough to handle getting beaten up by the best and worst of the mountains.

“You can lap about the place endlessly in these and you’ll always be comfortable”

Consisting of 100% post-consumer waste recycled nylon yarn, these pants will please those who like to judge outerwear on its environmental credentials first and foremost. Speaking of environmental credentials, the pant’s warm and comfortable PrimaLoft Black Eco Insulation is made from 80% recycled materials. The Catalyst 2L pants are also rocking WPS-2L Chambray (10k waterproof / 10k breathability).

Features

There’s something hardy about the Catalyst 2L pant, something a little bit ‘nightclub bouncer in the before times’. The kick-patches and roll up gaiters underline this feeling of proper durability, this general sense that these things are made for mucking about in.

What else? Well, there’s a nicely-implemented adjustable waistband to optimise the fit, some YKK Vislon Aquaguard zips, and a jacket to pant connection system for that time when you inevitably decide to sync this up with the Catalyst 2L jacket.

There’s also articulated knees for enhanced movement, and some inner-leg vents to help keep you cool on the hot and heated days up on the hill.

The Catalyst 2L pant comes in ‘Slate Black’, ‘Ice Blue’, ‘Alpine Forest’ and ‘Blue Denim’. If you like the ‘Pastel Canyon’ shade on Catalyst jacket, and like top and bottom to match, you might be disappointed to discover there’s no equivalent shade in the pants. Honestly though, there’s bigger problems in the world right now so do try and get over it quickly. You’ll only embarrass yourself otherwise.

Conclusion

Combine the FW Catalyst 2L jacket with the FW Catalyst 2L pant, look the world directly in the eye, and say “Yeah, I’m a little bit freestyle little bit functional. I’m the best of both worlds, me.”

FW donate 1% of their sales to NGOs acting against climate change which is, we think you’ll agree, nice of them.
