Why we chose the FW Catalyst Fusion Jacket And Bibs: Versatile, 2 in 1, stylish
Price: £580 (jacket), £350 (bibs)
As we saw when we reviewed their highly technical three-layer Manifest touring jacket, although they’re relative newcomers on the scene, FW has developed a diverse outerwear range. This range covers everything from touring-specific outerwear, to more resort-friendly pieces. Take this, for example. It’s the all-new Catalyst Fusion Jacket and Pants. FW provide a nice blend of newschool styling with technical protection, and this means their outerwear lineup is incredibly versatile.
“FW provide a nice blend of newschool styling with technical protection”
First thing to mention with the Catalyst Jacket and Pants is the fabric. Cut out of fully recycled yarn, the jacket feels soft to the touch; a refreshing contrast to the usual ‘bin bag’ feel you get from some technical outerwear setups. The outer has also been protected from abrasion with the use of ripstop woven into the fabric, showing FW’s commitment to producing durable clothing that doesn’t end up in landfill after the second season of use.
Waterproof protection comes in the form of a 2.5-layer protection. Featuring a membrane that blocks out water, but still lets air and moisture (sweat) pass through freely, the fabric works to keep you comfortable no matter what mother nature throws your way.
The Catalyst Jacket also features a quilted inner jacket, that can be removed and worn alone. This has been backed up with Primaloft Thermoplume insulation. The outer fabric is also soft to the touch and provides enough weather protection, and general warmth, to be worn alone when hanging out around town.
Features and Fit
Taking a look at the features, you’ve got two large concealed pockets that cross the chest and two more pockets that sit at the hips .This storage setup means you’ve got plenty of room for things like gloves, goggles and snacks. You’ve then got another two huge pockets on the thigh. Finishing with the pockets chat, there’s also a handy place to stash your phone on the inside of the ski jacket – this pocket also features a goggle wipe cloth. In short, you’ll have done well if you do actually run out of pocket space while wearing this kit.
