Mons Royale Temple Tech LS

Why We Chose The Mons Royale Temple Tech LS: Ethically-produced, comfortable, and breathable for active use.

You remember how during lockdown 1.0 you did a lot of quizzes on Zoom? You remember that, don’t you? You were doing three a week at one point? It was madness. Anyway, you’ll no doubt recall how during that strange time, it would quickly become clear what people’s different specialist subjects were. Patterns were established, a sense of round by round hierarchy set.

Big surprise, your friend who graduated from Bristol with a 2:1 in History had kings and queens well and truly nailed down. Oh, what a shock, your grade eight piano pal was incredibly knowledgeable when it came to the Salieri back catalogue. And you, well you didn’t eat all those Wotsits and play all that Mario Kart when you should have been revising for nothing did you? You clean-sweeped it on crisps and video games. Completely owned those suckers.

“The Temple Tech LS is a base layer made for getting active in”

When it comes to producing merino base layer and clothing, Mons Royale are bona fide experts. Such is their level of knowledge on the subject, we’d happily hazard a guess and say they won every single lockdown Zoom quiz round on this subject. Every single one. Unbeaten legends, the lot of them.

OK, probably overdone it on this introduction. Let’s get to it and discuss the Mons Royale Temple Tech Long Sleeve.

Materials

The Temple Tech LS is a base layer made for getting active in, a base layer designed with multisport use in mind. It uses Mons Royale’s ultra light Merino Air-Con fabric, something which the New Zealand brand (they were founded in a Wanaka garage, in 2009) claim is “breathable and anti-odour.”

The composition of the fabric is 83% merino wool, 13% nylon, and 4% elastane.

“The sheep used are free from disease, free from thirst, free from distress, free from discomfort, and free to live naturally”

Mons Royale work exclusively with ZQ Merino, the world’s leading ethical wool brand. ZQ sheep live free range under something called the Five Freedoms. The sheep used are free from disease, free from thirst, free from distress, free from discomfort, and free to live naturally.

What’s more, ZQ merino is traceable directly back to the farm from which it came with the accredited farmers priding themselves on the fact they carry out the best environmental practices. To make sure the highest standards are consistently being met, ZQ farmers are assessed by trainers and qualified third party auditors.

Features

The Temple Tech LS has a performance slim fit, breathable merino mesh back and panels for additional ventilation, Raglan sleeves for ease of movement, flatlock seams for enhanced comfort during long days of wearing, a drop tail for extra coverage and thumb loops.

Available in ‘Black’, ‘Black / Grey Marl’, ‘9 Iron’ and ‘Atlantlic’, all of the Temple Tech Long Sleeves come with that big Mons Royale wording on the arm. We like that. We think it looks cool.

Conclusion

If you’re looking for an ethically-produced, environmentally-sound, merino wool base layer that’ll do right by you when you’re getting active on the cold mountain days, look no further than the breathable Temple Tech LS from Mons Royale. Get one on, and cut loose.

Mons Royale Shaun-Off Leggings | Review

Words: Jack Clayton

Why We Chose The Mons Royale Shaun-off Leggings: Comfortable, stylish, and ethically-produced.

Land of jaw-dropping outdoor scenery, land of Flight of the Conchords, land of Jacinda Arden, Taika Waititi, Kane Williamson and the rest of the incredibly sound Kiwi cricket team, land of Mons Royale and their world class merino base layers – New Zealand has a lot going for it and is, as far as we’re concerned at least, one of the world’s top, top, countries

Founded in a Wanaka garage, on New Zealand’s south island in 2009, by professional freeskier Hamish Acland and graphic designer Hannah Aubrey (now Acland) Mons Royale have gone from strength to strength in recent years; building their success off the back of ethically-produced, stylish, merino wool base layers that can be worn on and off the mountain.

The Shaun-Off Leggings are a fine example of what Mons Royale are all about.

“The Shaun-Off Leggings are a fine example of what Mons Royale are all about”

Materials

The fabric of the Shaun-Off is 190 gsm Merino Single Jersey, and the leggings’ composition is 100% merino wool. The material used means the leggings offer comfort, warmth, and breathability. The material used also means the product is ideal for multisport use.

Because ZQ Merino is the world’s leading ethical wool brand, Mons Royale wearers can wear their kit knowing that the sheep used live free range under a set of good principles known as the Five Freedoms. These sheep are free from disease, free from thirst, free from distress, free from discomfort, and free to live naturally.

Adding to the sense that, yes, Mons Royale is an ethical company doing things ethically – ZQ merino is actually traceable directly back to the farm it came from. The accredited ZQ farmers pride themselves on their environmental practices, and are regularly assessed by trainers and third party auditors to ensure the highest standards are consistently being met.

Features

The words “FIRST ON LAST OFF” run down the side of the Shaun-Off Leggings’ left thigh. A catchy slogan? Sure. Some truth behind it? Absolutely. These things are made for all-day comfort and can, thanks to the way merino wool resists odour, easily be worn for days on end. They won’t be able to do anything about the fact you’ve been exclusively living off beans for four days, but they will delay a nasty B.O smell from kicking in. Chalk it up as a small win for nostrils.

“These things are made for all-day comfort and can, thanks to the way merino wool resists odour, easily be worn for days on end”

It’s not just about the merino wool though. That all-day, everyday, comfort offered is also a result of the total lack of side seam, the Mons slim fit, and the signature Mons Royale waistband.

Available in ‘Black’, ‘9 Iron Camo’, ‘Ultra Blue’, Alpine Stripe’, ‘Navy / Orange’ Smash’ and ‘Atlantic’ – each incredibly stylish in their own right – you would, we think, be hard pushed to find a cooler-looking three-quarter length base layer legging than the Shaun-Off.

Conclusion

No shade on the New Zealand flag, but it’s surely only a matter of time before the powers that be decide to hoist up a pair of Mons Royale leggings above the country’s parliament building in Wellington. If they put it to a vote, we’d certainly be rooting for the Shaun-Off to go up that symbolic pole. They look great, they’re made ethically, and they’re incredibly comfortable.
