Even in a country as obsessed with surfing as Brazil Bruna Schmitz stands out. She started surfing at nine, went on her first surf trip at 12 and hit the waves of Hawaii when she was only 13. A year later she became the youngest athlete to win a professional sporting event in Brazil when she won her first surf competition at 14 and within two years she had qualified for the ASP World Tour.

Brazilian men already have a pretty strong foothold in surfing, but Bruna is part of the female vanguard making waves (sorry, terrible joke I know). The goofy footer has been part of Roxy’s team for several years now. Having won everything going at junior level she’s one of the brands faces around the world both as a surfer and model.
