So you want to become a yoga teacher? Where should you start? There are plenty of yoga teacher training courses in the UK. It just depends how long you have to do the training and what kind of yoga you want to teach.
First of all, you need to decide which style of yoga you want to teach. We would recommend teaching the style you practice yourself – whether that’s Bikram, Iyengar, hatha or vinyasa.
Yoga For Beginners: Everything You Need To Know
Next where do you want to train? Most major cities across the UK have yoga teacher training courses on offer. Many yoga teacher training courses are run through either the British Wheel of Yoga or Yoga Alliance. The British Wheel of Yoga is yoga’s governing body in the UK but you don’t have to train through them. Yoga Alliance are an American organisation with registered schools all over the world.
Different yoga schools will also have their own yoga teacher training courses. For example, Bikram yoga schools will train you specifically to teach Bikram yoga. You will need your own yoga equipment including a yoga mat, block, brick and strap.
Once you are qualified by an accredited teacher training centre, you need to get yoga teacher insurance and you are ready to start teaching. Most entry level yoga teacher training courses range between £3,000 to £4,000, some will be more expensive especially if they are based outside of the UK.
