A video has appeared on YouTube showing three men completing the BASE Jump from the top of One World Trade Centre. The extreme feat took place back in September 2013 when Andrew Rossig, James Brady, Kyle Hartwell and Marco Markovic broke into the New York skyscraper before dawn. Hartwell acted as lookout on the ground floor while the other three made their way to the top and threw themselves from the 104th floor of the tallest building in the USA.
The trio free fell for 10 seconds before releasing their parachutes whilst enjoying a unique view on the Big Apple and touching down in Lower Manhattan. Despite being the city that never sleeps the streets are deserted, allowing the jumpers to make their escape.
The video, shot on a GoPro camera, comes to light a week after a 16 year old boy managed to slip into the site and find his way to the top floor, even asking for directions from a security guard. The four BASE jumpers seem to have taken advantage of the same lax security late last year and have taken one of the biggest scalps in BASE jumping before the building even opens.
One World Trade Centre, sometimes called the Freedom Tower, stands at 541m high, and is the fourth tallest building in the world. Construction started in 2006 and the building is finally set to open later this year. The jumpers were spotted as they landed below by the general public, as well as being caught on CCTV, and manhunt was launched by the police to catch the daring culprits. The four have been charged with burglary and could face further charges after their incredible stunt.
